Lavrov declared the unacceptable position of Germany on the situation with Navalny
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during a telephone conversation with his German counterpart Heiko Maas discussed the conflicts in Donbass and Karabakh, as well as the situation with Russian politician Alexei Navalny. Mr. Lavrov once again declared the unacceptability of Berlin’s position on the “Navalny case.”
“The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry once again stressed the unacceptability of Berlin’s position, which refuses to fulfill its international legal obligations arising from the 1959 European Convention on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters and the Chemical Weapons Convention. The hope was expressed that the FRG government would refrain from further artificial politicization of this entire situation, which would cause serious damage to Russian-German relations, ”the statement on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
Germany believes that Mr. Navalny’s illness is caused by poisoning with a Novichok-class substance. Earlier, Mr. Maas said that Russia has so far done little to clarify the circumstances of what happened to Alexei Navalny. According to him, it seems that Russia is not really interested in this.
Mr Navalny was hospitalized on August 20 in Omsk after he fell ill on the plane. Based on the results of the examinations, the Omsk doctors named metabolic disorders as the main diagnosis. Later, the politician was transported to Berlin.
